"Just Ask God – Even About the Little Things
Blessings to you! I pray all is well.
When we think about the will of God, we often look for His direction in life’s major decisions—career paths, relationships, ministry, finances, and the like. But what about the everyday choices that seem small or insignificant? What about what we wear, how we speak, where we go, and how we carry ourselves?
While the Bible may not give us a verse on whether to wear blue or red today, it does give us spiritual principles that shape every area of our lives—including how we dress. God may not dictate the details, but He absolutely cares about the heart behind our decisions.
Just Ask God
It may seem unnecessary to pray about something as routine as getting dressed. But here’s the truth: when we include God in the little things, we train our hearts to hear Him more clearly in the big things.
Scripture says in Proverbs 3:6, “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” All your ways—not just the major milestones. Even our daily habits are opportunities to invite the Holy Spirit’s wisdom and guidance.
God delights in being consulted. He desires relationship, not just reaction. When we “just ask God,” we position ourselves to walk more closely with Him. Whether it’s a wardrobe choice, a conversation, or an attitude adjustment—we can invite His perspective.
The Danger of Assuming
Sometimes we think we’re fine just making our own decisions—after all, we’re not doing anything “wrong,” right? But what if we’ve gotten comfortable making choices that subtly pull us away from God's best?
In our clothing, for example, are we dressing in a way that honors the Lord? Is our appearance reflecting humility, modesty, and purity of heart? Or are we unknowingly communicating something else?
The Bible doesn’t prescribe a specific fashion style, but it does call us to modesty and self-control (1 Timothy 2:9–10), to be holy in all we do (1 Peter 1:15), and not to be conformed to this world (Romans 12:2). That means even in our fashion, we should be discerning.
We might not always be in God’s will if we’re not actively seeking it.
Knowing God’s Will Begins with Doing God’s Will
The will of God is not a secret—it’s written in His Word. When we obey what is already revealed, we become more sensitive to what is not yet revealed.
John 7:17 says, “If anyone chooses to do God’s will, he will find out whether my teaching comes from God…” In other words, obedience brings understanding.
So start with the Word. Let it shape your mindset, your standards, and your daily habits. And along the way, talk to God. Ask Him even about the things you think are too small to matter.
Because they do matter.
A Prayer to Ask God in All Things
“Lord, I want to include You in every part of my life—big and small. Forgive me for assuming I know best in the daily decisions. Teach me to seek Your will in all my ways, even in what I wear, what I say, and how I live. Let my life reflect Your glory in every detail. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
Final Thoughts
There’s no part of your life too small for God’s attention. The more you invite Him in, the more your life becomes a reflection of His presence. Don’t wait for the big crossroads to hear His voice—cultivate the habit of asking now.
Even in the little things—just ask God.
